Earth Day 2020
Happy Earth Day!
My kids and I came up with six activities that we are keeping busy with this week to celebrate the 50 years anniversary of Earth Day…
- The Wild View from My Window – Creating a piece of art based on the green & wild view that we see from our windows.
- Use the Plantsnap App to upload photos of plants in the garden; identify and learn more about them – With the PlantSnap App you can upload your photos of leaves, flowers, trees, mushrooms, cacti and more and have them identified in an instant and on the go.
- Write a fact file about a wild animal – Research facts about the animal and identify how it contributes to its natural habitat; what is its prey and its predators (if any); and what is its current conservation status.
- Planting and gardening – We managed a quick gardening session this afternoon. We had a pot of guava seeds in the fridge ready to plant.
- My Pledges for the Planet – Today the kids each coloured an abstract of the planet and we have written a list of pledges, which we will print out and hang in the house to remind us of our commitments.
- Create a Minibeast Map – The kids will be drawing a map of the minibeasts and their homes in our garden and send us parents on a hunt to find them, before they find us, yikes!
A big thank you to the teaching team at Kinabalu International School for all the support you offer us with our home schooling and all the wonderful creative activities you also manage to squeeze into the program – one of which inspired the kids line-drawing and planet abstracts today for our afternoon Earth Day fun.
I hope you have all had a happy and safe Earth Day. I would love to hear what action you are taking, big or small – it all counts, for the sake of our home and our children’s future.
With kindness and much love…
